FOOD BLOGGERS: GET SAUCED!

Saucy Mama Kindles Creativity with Blog-Centered Recipe Contest

Pendleton, Ore. (June 26, 2009) – – For more than 22 years, Suzie “Saucy Mama” Barhyte has been the genius behind the Barhyte brand of specialty condiments. As of today, she also is the brand name for the company’s premium line of dressings, sauces, marinades and mustards. And in celebration of Saucy Mama’s new place on store shelves, the company is hosting a contest for food bloggers with some super-sized prizes at the end.

The “Saucy Mama’s Extraordinary Condiment Contest” kicks off today, offering 25 lucky food bloggers the opportunity to win a bundle of prizes, including a Grand Prize of an Amazon Kindle 2 Wireless Reader, as well as a $150 certificate to Amazon.com, and best of all, a featured place on Saucy Mama’s packaging.

The contest, which was announced today on Saucy Mama’s blog (www.saucymamacafe.com) and through Twitter (www.twitter.com/saucymamacafe), calls out food bloggers who want to test their culinary creativity using the collection’s new line of condiments. The first 25 would-be contestants who apply and agree to the contest’s regulations automatically will receive a “Blogger Kit” containing:

- Saucy Mama Lime Chipotle Marinade
- Saucy Mama Sesame Ginger Dressing
- Saucy Mama Parmesan Garlic Marinade
- Saucy Mama Raspberry Vinaigrette
- Saucy Mama Chipotle Mustard

Once they receive their kit, these home chefs will be asked to create an original recipe using any one of the Saucy Mama products, and submit their creations back to the company for judging. The winning recipe’s creator will receive the Grand Prize, which will include on-package recognition of both the recipe and the person behind its handiwork.

Three Runners-Up will receive an Audiovox 7” Under-Counter Television/DVD player to enhance their own culinary setting.

Why the high-tech prizes? “The Kindle keeps the joy of reading, but makes the process of getting the book faster and more enjoyable than ever,” says Chris Barhyte, Saucy Mama’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We like to think of Saucy Mama the same way: helping create delicious meals, FAST, while still preserving the gourmet flavor experience.”

Barhyte Specialty Foods®, based out of Pendleton, Oregon, has roots dating back 200 years and 6,000 miles away in Germany, where Jacobus Barhyte first created a sweet and sour mustard that he brought to the US. Many generations later, Jan and Susan Barhyte began selling mustard from the original recipe, as well as other signature creations, through their Swift and Martin Station Deli. Thanks to overwhelming demand, the family launched their own manufacturing operation in 1977. Today, the company offers more than 65 award-winning mustards, marinades, sauces, and other condiments.
