BARHYTE USING NATURAL INGREDIENTS – EVEN IN ITS POWER

Pendleton, OR – (October 21, 2008)– – Barhyte Specialty Foods® – purveyor of gourmet condiments including mustard, marinades, and dressing – has signed on as Champion-Level participants in Pacific Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program. In its efforts to instill greater “green” practices for its company, Barhyte also has teamed with Washington-based Green for Good to earn the organization’s Green for Good Certification.

“We pride ourselves on creating natural, healthy condiments for our customers, sourcing local and organic ingredients whenever possible,” explained Barhyte’s president of sales and marketing, Chris Barhyte. “It was only natural – pun intended – for us to take steps on the receiving side to ensure that we protect the very environment that feeds our business.”

Through Pacific Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program, Barhyte has agreed to purchase at least ten percent of its energy from sustainable sources including wind, biomass, and solar. Barhyte also has sought counsel from Green for Good, which is providing “best practices” advice to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. Green for Good's mission is to connect individuals and businesses interested in incorporating Greener practices into their personal and professional lives.

Barhyte’s renewable energy commitment will apply to the company’s Pendleton, Oregon test kitchen and manufacturing center, as well as its Tualatin, Oregon sales office.

Barhyte Specialty Foods®, based out of Pendleton, Oregon, has roots dating back 200 years and 6,000 miles away in Germany, where Jacobus Barhyte first created a sweet and sour mustard that he brought to the US. Many generations later, Jan and Susan Barhyte began selling mustard from the original recipe, as well as other signature creations, through their Swift and Martin Station Deli. Thanks to overwhelming demand, the family launched their own manufacturing operation in 1977. Today, the company offers more than 65 award-winning mustards, marinades, sauces, and other condiments.
